For decades, collecting and analyzing education data has been left up to the “experts” and for the most part that has been fine with the rest of us. However, that has changed as a result of recent federal and state policies. Parents and community members now have access to unprecedented amounts of data, including data on the academic achievement of students and data on what opportunities to learn our children are being offered. To that end, this pre-conference meeting will introduce “Making Data Work: A Parent and Community Guide.” This publication will enable readers to readily collect and analyze school data in order to improve student achievement. You will be guided through a step-by-step process of collecting, analyzing and communicating about data on real issues facing our schools and school systems. You will learn what data to look for, how to use it, and why data is so important for our children’s academic success. Join us for an interactive meeting and a most informative conference.
