Latino Achievement in America

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Latinos represent the largest and fastest-growing ethnic minority group in the United States; but public education has been slow to respond to the needs of Latinos, and the achievement gap for Latinos is a crisis that needs to be addressed. Fortunately, we also know that Latino students perform at high levels when they are taught to high levels and when they receive their fair share of opportunities. In this session, we are going to analyze the achievement of Latinos in the nation and what can be done to close the achievement gap. We will also look at recent Education Trust publications in both Spanish and English that are specifically targeted to members of the Latino community, including legislators, educators, parents and community members. Participants will also hear about successful strategies in schools serving large numbers of Latino students.
