Lifting School Achievement: It Takes a Team

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

It takes a team to drive equity. Armed with vision, data, and drive, school counselors—together with principals and teachers—in the Mobile County Public School System are propelling school improvement. Watch a school team conduct a weekly data meeting that zeroes in on student progress. The goal: to boost student achievement in this Alabama district. Partnering with The Education Trust, MCPSS has worked to free school counselors from administrative tasks, and teach them to become leaders and advocates for access and equity.
Presenters: Rhonda Waltman, education consultant, Mobile, Ala.; Wade Whitney, principal; John Poiroux, assistant principal; Kathleen Smallwood, counselor;  Rebecca Brower, science teacher; Dan Moncla, social studies teacher; and Laura Pezent, social studies teacher, Grand Bay Middle School, Mobile, Ala.
