Session 43: No Teacher Left Behind
This session focuses on school-wide leadership development in two 2006 State Title I Distinguished Schools. Teacher leadership is enhanced by intense structured schoolwide collaboration which resulted in both schools becoming recognized as outstanding professional learning communities. The staff incorporates many research best practices into the instruction for a student body with a high poverty and special education population. Success for these schools has been defined by the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) tests resulting in a significant narrowing of the achievement gap. Both staffs have identified and created specific strategies which enhance learning quality in the area of literacy.
