Session 48: Spreading the Word: How to Communicate Your Gap-Closing Stories with the Press and Public
This interactive workshop will focus on how school leaders, community groups, and other key players in the education community can communicate effectively about schools’ gap-closing efforts. Education Trust staff and education news reporters will explore strategies and tools to help schools share information about their efforts with a broader audience and examine the best ways to work with journalists. Learn how to be prepared not only when there is a “good news” story to tell but also when reporters call about stories that may not be such “good news.” During this session, participants will also have an opportunity to share and gain feedback on sample press releases, newsletters, and other tools they use to communicate with the public, along with media coverage of their schools’ achievement results.
