Session 59: Help Us Think About How to Improve the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act
At past conferences, participants have been unequivocal: most strongly support the overall thrust of NCLB and think that focus should be maintained. But they also have indicated that there are many ways in which the law could be improved. In this session, Education Trust Director Kati Haycock and Policy Director Ross Wiener will provide a brief overview of the impact of the law to date, highlight areas where changes are likely to be proposed, and provide some analysis of the likely effect of those changes. With that as a foundation, we’ll turn to you. What have been your experiences? Where is the law helping or hurting? Would some of the suggested changes be helpful? What else would improve the impact of this important legislation? (Note: This session is NOT for Washington policy organizations, which have plenty of other opportunities to discuss the law and possible ways to influence the reauthorization.)
