In the U.S. today, we lose approximately 50% of new teachers every year. The cost of this teacher attrition is estimated at $2.6 billion a year. Several studies show that New Teacher Induction can improve these odds and prevent new teachers from leaving the profession. As teacher quality is the number one predictor of student success, it is imperative that we take steps to retain our highly qualified teachers. The Alliance for Excellent Education calls for federal investment that will help secondary schools implement high quality induction programs in their schools to retain superior teachers in every middle and high school with high-risk student populations.
