Student Success Skills: Helping Students Develop the Skills They Need to Succeed
This session will focus on a standardized, research-based curriculum using strategies that have been linked to improved student achievement outcomes in a series of four recent studies. Study results will be shared and participants will review and engage in selected learning, social, and self-management activities that were developed based on research about what helps students to be successful in school. The program fits with the American School Counselor Association’s National Model and No Child Left Behind (NCLB) initiatives that aim at closing the achievement gap. Strategies for implementation involving teachers and school counselors in this classroom and group counseling intervention will be presented.
