Transcending Katrina: School-University Collaboration Model for Responding to Large-Scale Natural Disasters
This presentation will describe the collaborative efforts of the Mobile County Public School System and the College of Education at the University of South Alabama to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Special emphasis will be placed upon the emerging model for collaboration, how to organize the work of multiple but uncoordinated agencies and individuals, the identification of areas of expertise and community needs, how to develop a coordinated plan for integrated service delivery based on needs and resources, and the special role to be played by school counselors in this integration.
