Documentary filmmakers Adam and Jaye Fenderson have brought to the screen a subject that could not be more timely. In First Generation, the Fendersons plunge us into the world of four real high school students fighting numerous obstacles to become first in their families to attain a college education.

Two special screenings of the powerful film are scheduled for Ed Trust’s 2012 National Conference. Delia Pompa, of National Council of La Raza, will moderate a plenary discussion with the filmmakers and two student cast members from the film.

The young people featured in the film embody the struggles of students across the country pursuing their academic dreams in the shadow of prohibitively high cost and sometimes lackluster preparation. Their success would benefit the nation as a whole.

The Ed Trust conference offers an opportunity to learn what educators around the country are doing to make higher education attainable for more rather than fewer students. Register today!
