Poll: Public Backs High Standards, College and Career-Ready Curriculum for All High School Students
Voters across the political spectrum back college and career-ready education in high school. That’s the message of a new opinion survey commissioned by Achieve, a bipartisan nonprofit group that works to prepare all young people for postsecondary education.
By a margin of nearly two to one, the 800 voters polled in May by Public Opinion Strategies and Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research favored common standards, rather than varied state ones, for math and English. They also supported, by a similar margin of 64 percent to 34 percent, the idea of having the same rigorous graduation requirements for all students.
In past years, Ed Trust has partnered with Achieve in crafting policies designed to get all students college and career-ready.
Most voters surveyed, 86 percent, favor college and career-ready requirements for all students, with 65 percent strongly in favor. This sentiment bridges partisan divides, with 85 percent of Republicans, 87 percent of Democrats, and 85 percent of independents in support of such requirements for all students.
