Graduation Rate Accountability Guide

For far too long, most states did not set any meaningful expectations for schools to raise graduation rates and close gaps between groups. Fortunately, that’s beginning to change. Prompted by the U.S. Department of Education to set expectations that reflect “continuous and substantial improvement,” states have proposed new ways of holding high schools accountable for raising graduation rates, and the department has approved new plans for graduation-rate accountability in 36 states.
