Director of Equity Initiatives
The Education Trust—West (ETW) seeks a full-time Director of Equity Initiatives to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of public school reform efforts and strategies in California schools and districts such as human capital reforms, school turnaround efforts and others major school reform initiatives intended to reduce and eliminate achievement and opportunity gaps for students of color and low income students. This position will work directly with the Executive Director and other key staff and is responsible for the evaluation, assessment and analysis of reform efforts in relation to their impact on educational equity and the achievement gaps that plague students of color and low income students.

Major Responsibilities
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement a process to evaluate the implementation of state and district level educational policy and reform efforts that have a direct bearing on ETW’s research and advocacy priorities;
- Develop protocols and methods for acquiring relevant information (quantitative and qualitative) to analyze the impact a variety of education programs and reform strategies;
- Identify appropriate district and school reform efforts for analysis and develop relationships with related individuals including state, district and school leaders, in order to conduct the necessary work;
- Where possible, develop criteria and metrics to provide an objective assessment of programs and strategies being assessed;
- Manage the Equity Initiatives department including related staff, budget and systems;
- Collaborate closely with the Policy and Research and External Relations departments to provide them information that is most effective in furthering the ETW mission;
- Work with the ETW outreach department to inform external stakeholders including policy makers as appropriate;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Significant central office/school district experience at middle or senior management level required;
- Experience as a school principal strongly preferred;
- Experience with human resources practices at a district and school level;
- Curriculum and instruction experience, with strong background in reading instruction, current practices in data-based decision-making, and intervention programs;
- Experience with education reform initiatives such as professional learning communities, response to intervention, A-G implementation, etc.;
- Experience with research methodologies used in education program analysis and evaluation;
- Knowledge of district and school budgets and practices such as site-based budgeting;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills;
- Ability to facilitate groups of people;
- Strategic and critical thinker, analytic skills;
- Highly analytical, ability to see trends and synthesize complex information;
- Results-oriented, achievement-driven approach to tasks;
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills;
- Ability to work independently and take initiative;
- Ability to collaborate well with others, both inside and outside the organization;
- Ability to communicate findings from policy and data analysis to a diverse audience;
- Experience with and ability to balance multiple demands and deadlines with composure;
- Knowledge of issues relevant to education and the achievement gap;
- Bachelor's degree and Masters Degree required;
- Earned Doctorate preferred;
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience, within the parameters of the Education Trust compensation scale. EXCELLENT benefits package provided.
