Our work
The Education Trust—West is the West Coast arm of the national organization, The Education Trust. We advocate on the behalf of students in California with a particular focus on low-income students and students of color who have historically been left behind by our public school system. From engaging in state policy debates to forming partnerships with key educational stakeholders to distributing accurate and timely data to help inform educational policy and practices across the state, The Education Trust—West is relentless in its mission to ensure that all students are educated to the highest levels and graduate from our high schools prepared for success in a wide array of post-secondary options.
The Education Trust—West provides:
- advocacy that encourages schools, colleges, and communities across California to mount effective campaigns so that all students can reach high levels of academic achievement;
- analysis and expert testimony on policies intended to improve education and close the gaps in opportunity and achievement between groups of students;
- writing and speaking for professional and general audiences about effective educational patterns and practices;
- research and public dissemination of state data identifying achievement patterns among different groups of students with a particular focus on equity issues; and
- assistance to school districts and community-based organizations to advance their efforts in raising student achievement, especially among low-income students and students of color, through the use of our Educational Opportunity Audit and Blueprint Toolkit.
